Heʻe nalu is believed to have originated in ancient Polynesia, but Hawaiʻi has become known as the ‘surfing capital of the world.’ Heʻe nalu was once a sport reserved only for ali’i (Hawaiian royalty), and is therefore often known as the “sport of kings.” Surfing is one of the best things to do in Hawaiʻi!
